Why Moms Should Shop at Forever 21

I may not be the most fashionable momma, but I sure do love shopping for clothes. There’s just something about getting a new outfit that makes me feel young, sexy and beautiful again.

There seems to be this misconception that moms should not shop at Forever 21. They have such an awesome selection and I don’t leave there feeling like I robbed my daughters closet (although she robs mine)! Not only does Forever 21 have some really cute clothes, but they have some pretty awesome sales as well! It’s not hard for me to go in and spend $300+ on clothing just for myself. I’m set for a few years! Although, I will be back next season cuz you know-I can.

Yep, I’m a 38 year old woman with 8 kids that drives a minivan. What should I look like? Who says a mom can’t be trendy and fun? Buzz Killers…that’s who! I’m sorry, I really like graphic tees. They are comfy and I can wear them with jeans, a skirt or leggings. Plus, they add a lot of personality to my mom outfit!

I’m pretty proud of my body. Yea, I do have tiger stripes and I do have droopy boobs. But, for 8 pregnancies, I’m not looking too bad! Why shoudn’t I be able to wear what I want to wear?

It’s no wonder that moms dive into deep depressions from being constantly judged. We’re already judged on what we feed our kids, how we choose to school them, discipline, having a drink, how often we bathe them, etc. etc. etc.  Why does it matter to so many people what we wear?

I went through this period where I believed that girls and women should dress conservatively. Lets just say a certain family on TV was REALLY popular at the time. I tried, I really did. But, wearing jumpers and no pants is just not me. Most importantly, it’s not my daughters. I didn’t want them to see me changing who I was to try to fit into societal norms. That’s not who we are. We’re a large family that doesn’t fit in with other large families. The outcasts of large family culture!

It’s almost like society wants us to dress down and not fly our freak flag because they want us to be quiet. There’s this thought that mothers need to look and act a certain way. It’s binding and restricting for ALL woman. With all the crap females are facing in the world, why would we hand over control of our closet? They already try to control our vaginas and other parts of our life. It makes no sense to me.

As moms, we need to take back our identities and stop letting society dictate how we are supposed to be. We’re FRICKEN’ MOMS! The superheros of the human race. Without us, the world would spiral into an uncontrollable spin or be blown up by large egos with big guns.

I want my 4 daughters to be strong, independent women. The best way for me to encourage that is to be myself. I don’t want them to feel ashamed about what they wear. Whether they are 13 or 30, they should be able to be true to themselves.

So for all you mommas out there afraid you’re gonna be judged if you shop at Forever 21, I say “f* ’em!” You be you girl! There’s nothing sexier than a confident woman. Join us in taking back our bodies and our freedom. Say “who cares what you say” to the negative Nancys and judgy Jennifers! We made tiny little humans and we deserve to be ourselves.
